Entries for month: May 2012
That time of year again has come around when new beginnings are on the horizon for many children. Whether it be high school, or preschool, or somewhere in between... closing a chapter at one school before moving on to the next is always exciting and also a little nerve wracking!
Our suggestion? Take it all in stride. Celebrate! These events only come around once for each of our children and they deserve recognition, and congratulating.
Take a look at some of our Pinterest snacks and crafts that coincide with graduation. These are adorable for preschoolers, or send them to school with your high schooler- one last chance to be the "cool" parent!

Each year as Mother's Day approaches, I am reminded how fortunate I am. I have 4 reasons (AKA children) that give me the privilege to celebrate this day.
Recently, I inquired of friends, their plans for the day. Responses vary and all were interesting. Some choose to celebrate with a brunch, visit to their mother, or a day trip to a local botanical garden. All including their children.
There are others who choose to celebrate with " a day off". Visiting a spa, going to an all day scrap-booking event, or just want time alone. Nothing wrong with these either... we can all use a day off/spa day/time alone!
I like to celebrate in a simple way- Together. My husband, myself, and our 4 children will be together. If it's nice, maybe we'll garden (who can turn down helping mom outside on Mother's Day!) . If it rains... a movie? board games? I'm flexible. As long as it is easy, low stress. At our house we have the "red plate". This is the special plate you get to eat off of on your birthday, and maybe one other day if something special happens... with 4 children you have to keep it fair. As we will dine at home, this usually comes out as well. Not having to plan/prepare/clean up the meal is a treat in and of itself!
I wish for each mother out there to get their wish for Sunday. Celebrate how you want- but remember those children of yours who "gave" you this day. Enjoy!

small acts of thanks:
Buy coffee for staff (Starbucks, etc) - provide afternoon treats for staff (deliver to classroom or put in teacher lounge) - sun lotion (hopes for a relaxing summer) - lanyards for school ID's
The ideas are endless....the idea is to recognize their efforts!
